Ouch

Lets see if this will still make folks laugh. I wrote this about 2 years ago for a publication called Pizzaz Magazine out of Nevada. Mag has gone under since but man it is really funny and all true, sadly enough.

Ouch.

Let’s talk about the mother of all bad ideas. Just think for a moment that when stupidity spasms strike all intelligence and common sense goes out the window and we are caught in a spiral of bad decisions followed up by bad decisions. I believe stupidity should hurt and in this case it did and does and itches too.

This is a comic tragedy involving a hairy guy, bottle of epil-stop, an understanding friend and a curious wife.

The stage is set. I am a fairly hairy guy, I have shaved my arms for a long time and had my daughter use epil stop on my back to prevent myself looking like a sasquatch with the mange. Well I should say bribed my daughter to do it. Last Saturday night, it was late; I come from the shower with the almost empty bottle of epil-stop, as it is the two-week ritual that she removes the hair from my back. Little did I know that there was a diabolical plan afoot. My wife had done a deal with my daughter, while I sat unknowing and defenseless in the shower, saying if she were to do her brothers’ chores she wouldn’t have to do my back. Unfair at best, but I was not even in on the negotiations. After several minutes of fruitless convincing, 13 yr old girls can be very stubborn, my lovely brides friend steps up to the plate offering to rescue me from the depths of “desp-hair”. After commenting that this was the grosses thing she had ever done the back was done without incident. Until the wife makes a suggestion, “Sweetie, I wonder what you would look like if you did your chest.” She stated innocently enough while looking up from her pogo game.

Enter the stupidity spasm and begin the tragedy.

All intelligence leaves my body and I become convinced that this is somehow a great idea, perhaps the greatest idea in the world. Now you have to understand my chest hair is thicker than most people’s head hair. I think wow I am almost out of epil-stop what should I do. Enter first really bad idea of two bad ideas! “I can use the bottle of generic stuff I bought on CLEARANCE at the grocery store out of the cart in the back that I found when I was going to the restroom.”
Lets see where is that stuff, oh yah I forgot about it and left it in my trunk for the last week. (We live in Florida folks and its still in the 80’s here all day).

Hey I can do the front myself. Let me go trim what I can with the beard clippers, return 20 min later, bathroom looks like we sacrificed a medium size animal and skinned it. Directions? Who needs flipping directions, I will just squirt the foam in my hands, rub it together and rub it in. (Note: directions state, apply foam to hair directly, do not rub in). Now I am rubbing it in and missing everything under my chin because I can’t see it so I try to look down further and put my chin right in the only part of the compound that is still foam on my body. Now look at my picture, I have a goatee, this is not a good thing. Wipe that off, wife is now giggling but continues to play pogo with comments from time to time. You know encouraging things like “Gawd yall are stupid.” Friend steps in to help and rubs in all foam where I can’t see; she starts wondering why her hands are burning. Compound has now been in place about 3 min when we decide to read how long you are supposed to use it. Box says leave on no more than 6 min and do not exceed 8 no matter what. So using the massive amount of brainpower that I have I set the timer for 11 min. That’s 3 plus 11 making 14 total, over twice the time allotted on the box as safe. Wife continues to play pogo without comment but is now grinning and giggling uncontrollably.

Funny, I didn’t follow the directions, left it on too long and when I went to wipe it off, it didn’t work, first thought “Those bastards lied on the infomercial on TV, it even says it on the box “As seen on TV.”“ Hair only came off in patches, at this time I also start to notice some long patches I missed with the clippers. Now frustration sets in. Not intelligence, but frustration, I want a beautiful smooth chest. What I got was a patchy, bald, stinky, very white mess. Now it’s starting to burn a little bit, so I go to rinse it off in the shower. Get in warm shower to rinse off. Now my chest and my back both start to burn, think I may have been doused with acid. Suddenly remember box said something about no soap or hot water. Quickly turn off the hot water but forget to turn off the shower and I leave cold on…screaming ensues as razorblades begin to emit from the showerhead, initial agony starts to subside now that the cold razorblades are no long being forced into my skin. Now goose bumps begin to come up from the temp. Change making the pain start all over again. Whatever you do don’t ever do the hot and cold-water thing, that’s the misery that keeps on giving. Finally work up the nerve to get rinsed off and pain eventually has subsided. Back is fine; chest is a bit red but not too bad and still looks like I have been on a low fat diet for far to long all patchy and different lengths. Go back in the kitchen, wife starts laughing, goes back to playing pogo. See above for muttered phrase. Friend giggles and says oh my god. Now I am doing this for love and making a noble sacrifice for the woman I love and I am being ridiculed. At this point I should have realized there was no way this could turn out with a good ending. But now, alas I have the strength to persevere. Read on brave soul.

I look down, not in too much pain, and think hmmmm what am I going to do? No folks I’m not stupid but this was an exceptional night for the retardation of my brain to come out. I think for a moment, shrug my shoulders and grab the bottle of stuff and start applying again!!!!! Good god it took exactly 10 seconds for it to start burning. I think hmm that hurts a little but it’ll be ok, I keep rubbing, and yes I’m still not following the directions. After I do my right side of the chest, I then realize that it hurts beyond what the hot water did and I run for the shower again. After standing in a cool shower this time for long enough to sooth my chest, I start wondering what I am going to do. Now at this point as I rub the water in trying to sooth the irritation my chest hair is falling out but still only in patches but now it’s all gooey too boot. What will I do, I don’t want to look like a dork, as if it was possible to look any less like a dork at this point. I grab the razor and soap. Read above where it says do not use soap or warm water. Well I don’t want to shave with cool water so I turn the water warm, put up with the discomfort and start shaving. Well I still have a lot of hair left and it is all gooey from the compound and soap on it, razor fills up fast. Hmm what will I do, I know ill grab my face razor it has 4 blades that will work great!!!! I commence to shaving, and shaving, and shaving wondering why it is still burning after the hair is gone, surely 30 min in the shower 2 times is enough to get rid of the entire compound. Never dawns on me that that stuff was absorbed. When I finally give up, most hair gone from neck to naval. I walk out of the shower in boxers to present my new beautiful self to the two people who helped me to become the person I now am. Both start laughing, my wife starts saying I am sorry, I am so sorry. Stops playing her game and states simply I don’t like it, you look better with hair. Now understand, my wife never says she’s sorry for much. So unsolicited I think this must be bad. Now I’m drying and no longer cool water running on me my chest is getting hot and my skin feels like it is suddenly too small for my body. I go look in the mirror and wonder why there are red splotches and sores on me. Oh I know I’ll put some aftershave lotion on it, silly me to forget that little detail. Now I want to pass out, just kill me now and I will be happy. Give up for night and wonder why I can’t sleep, pain does not ease.

Next day get up, have scabs on my chest and burns plus razor burn and patchy really short hair everywhere. Two days later it finally quit hurting now it just itches like hell as it is growing back in.

Information Control or Where the School went wrong

I really should be working right now but this has been weighing on my mind since last night. Really must be said before I explode.



When did it become ok to police thought? Huxley and Orwell would be rolling in their graves fighting for the right too say I told you so first. (Sadly enough, kids today don't know who they are because those books are no longer widely read in school because of "suggestive content." ) That however is another rant.



Well forgive me for being blunt but "What the French toast?"



My daughter, she's 15, had a friend in trouble for that exact expression in school. Would someone mind telling me exactly when breakfast pastries became offensive language? Oh pancakes, I just lost my oatmeal. Look, the explanation was that it was not what was said but the manner in which it was used and said. The converse of this statement is not true however. I cannot tell someone to go screw themselves in a nice conversational tone and not get in trouble at school. What are we all dogs? Well I could, thank god (yup this word is offensive too) I am no longer subject to the thought police or as I like to think of them "addlepated, thumb sucking, pin headed, word croissants"



This is all rooted in the 'Political Correctness' of today's society. OMG be careful you might offend someone by what you say so we will be careful and live in a boring, censored world. Plain vanilla (oh wait I just offended all the albinos out there.)



The first step to tyranny is secrets, the second is information control. Folks this is what this is plain and simple, you can't talk this way, you can't dress this way, you can't think this way because it's wrong. Well guess what, if my kids want to think for themselves, I am going to defend them. If they want to feel a certain way and express that in a polite non offensive manner, then don't stop them.



Oh and if you are an administrator who wants to punish my children for using their freedom of speech (yes kids rights are protected too you malt-o-meal minded cornflakes), then please call me and I will be happy to show up and get in your face but be warned I have a large vocabulary and am not afraid to use it; but most likely I will choose to speak in manner which you choco-crisp educators can understand.

News flash you bleeding heart idiots, this is war and they are not sally sue in pig tails from down the street. These folks were shooting guns (those are things that throw bullets, for you addelpated skull musher’s out there who forgot) at our men and women and would gladly kill you in a second if they thought it would glorify their “peaceful” deity.

I say he did what he had to do to keep our men and women safe and he should be protected. So maybe he should show up in court, with an M1 on either side of him saying yah I did it and who wants some now.

Or better yet lets file suit against the North Koreans for breaking the treaty? Or how bout Iran for thumbing their nose at the UN and doing what ever the hell they want? Make them accountable. Oh no we cant do that. Or better yet lets file suit against the terrorists for beheading our citizens, that’s cruel treatment, and they didn’t even ask them any questions.

I don’t see this happening but we need to make sure that we don’t forget just exactly who it is that keeps us safe!

OMG I am on the side of education in this one!

Helicopter Parents, the worst assault on personal freedom since the PC movement which if you read my stuff at all you know I believe is the gateway to socialistic hell and the destroyer of personal freedom.

Why do these overbearing “best interest at heart” do gooder parents not have enough faith in their children to let them do their own thing. Another way to look at this is call them a control freak, domineering, overbearing pain in the rear. But that is a bit harsh isn’t it? Not at all.

I have six children, yes six. I do not agree with everything they do but they are taught to be free thinkers and make their own decisions from a young age. Yes you heard that right, I encourage my children to make mistakes! They are not evil, mistakes that is, the jury is still out on some of my kids. Mistakes are how we learn. There is such a stigma in today’s society about winning and never making a mistake. Well who gets blamed? The parents? Nope, the Kids, Nope. We blame the “pressure” to win so we eliminate competition to make it better. Well whose addlebrained idea is this one? Its not winning that’s the problem and its not losing that’s the problem its quitting that is the problem.

Struggle is a good thing, failure is a good thing, giving up, that’s a horrible thing. We are not allowed to give up in my house. You can fail as much as you like as long as you get back up and try again. Mistakes are rewarded with experience and that builds self esteem. Not some over zealous soccer mom in a Prada suit running around begging people “please hire my baby. I know he cannot be here today because he is at home feeling good about himself and his lack of progress in school but I promise if you hire him then I will be right there to make sure that he gets his work done just like I have been since the beginning of his educational career.”

Excuse me is this not weird to anyone else? WTF is this about? Your Educational Career? Last time I checked it was called school and if you didn’t make good grades, it was because you didn’t do what you needed to, to get those grades. Not because mom and dad didn’t try hard enough to encourage you.

Oh but wait it gets better. So now we have these pampered spoiled little brats who live at home till 30 and beyond who all have great self esteem but are miserable and scared because they have never accomplished one worthy thing on their own in their life. News flash folks, life is lived in the struggle not in the victory. The victory is empty without the pain of achieving it. When mom and dad do this Kiddo becomes a sniveling idiot with no skills and an entitlement attitude. They become a bigger loser than their parents could ever imagine.

Keep reading and you might get even more pissed. Yes I will tell you to your face that you are a bad parent if you do this because you are. Yes I will tell you you re a loser if you still live at home after 18. Yup I said 18. My kids get out when they are 18 if I have to throw them out. Do they make all the right decisions? Nope, not according to my definition of right. Do I make them for them? Nope, their life I have become and advisor.

Do I help if they are in dire trouble? Maybe, depends on how bad I think it is. Yes I would let my kids go hungry for a few days so they could learn a lesson. Not my minor children but if they are over 18 they know how to feed themselves properly.

God that’s harsh isn’t it? Well guess what, too bad the real world is harsh and nobody cares if its hard to make it because it is. I have more respect for the 30 year old living in a dump with a POS car working 3 jobs trying to make it than I do for the pathetic excuse for a person still living at home with a gravy job and all the “trappings” of life. The second is an example of a false life funded by you guessed it “helicopter parents” the first is an example of a person building a life for themselves.

You are supposed to make bad decisions in life, its called learning and it makes us stronger people. Yes its hard, yes it sucks sometimes and yes you cannot undo everything all the time but oh well that’s what makes life interesting.

Oh and if you are one of the lazy butts still living at home with mom and dad? You have two choices. Go buy some diapers and bottles so they can feed you and wipe your ass because going to the bathroom is the only thing you are doing for yourself currently and hell why not stop that since they do everything else for you. Or Go get a life and start living instead of be a pathetic sycophant living on your parents dime.

You want to know what evil looks like. Check out this picture. This is what the face of the people who would limit your freedom looks like. They are not red, horned beasts but mothers with an apocalyptic view of society in general and not enough confidence in themselves and their ability to raise children that they have to attempt to force others to do it. My children can tell the difference between right and wrong, fact and fantasy and I taught them that very early in life.

I am sad for this lady that she cannot have enough faith in her own ability to raise her children and teach them this fundamental difference that she feels the need to force the compensation for her inadequacies on the rest of us by limiting what our children are allowed to read.

Well for one my kids know what is acceptable and what is not and how to tell the difference. Hers apparently cannot, according to her actions they also lack the self control to follow the rules when Mommy is not watching, so they have no integrity either. What exactly is she teaching her children that they lack this fundamental value?

Lets ban every book that mentions, spirits, witchcraft, the occult, and anything else that we may not want our children exposed too and are too lazy to teach them ourselves to stay away from. Oh but wait that eliminates many books listed in the article but hey NEWS FLASH it eliminates the bible too! Which contains themes of disgusting reanimation of the dead, spiritual warfare, beasts (not described in detail), speaking with spirits, ghosts, demons, angels, and an evil character called Satan who used to be good (this might confuse the little children’s ability to tell good from evil)?

What is this teaching our children? To give up every time they are faced with a difficult circumstance? To run to the government to shield and protect them every time they are faced with a moral dilemma? Well read the news folks, the people in charge apparently went to some of these schools because some of them have just as much trouble "being good" as this woman’s children do when they are removed from the artificial control created by helicopter parents (always hovering around to make sure jr. does not make any mistakes.)

Have some faith in yourself and your children’s ability to tell right from wrong and your ability to teach them the precious morals and values that are important to you.

Do not ever presume to tell me how I should raise my children and what values they "should" have. Matter of fact if these books were banned in my kids schools, after a verbal fight on my end, I would send them to school with Harry Potter books proudly displayed and a black armband to represent the limits of their freedom. And let the school administration fight us on it. I teach my children about freedom and intelligence not ignorance and fear.

For those of you in a censored environment this is called "Civil Disobedience" and was at one time encouraged..... Oh but wait that book was probably banned, too so you would not know anything about that would you Mrs. Laura "helicopter parent" Mallory?

WTF is this? Read this article and tell me how this is not an attempt of the school to regulate us as adults? It happens to be a government school so this would be a direct attempt at government to limit freedom that we enjoy in this country.

You know I agree we should not be late to school with our children as they need to be there on time but to force us to go to detention? Who the heck made me accountable to them? Last time I checked the principal of my local grade school was not a position I elected or a law that I voted on and agreed to be subject too.

I for one am not and will not be accountable to an educator who chooses to make arbitrary rules for my children and myself. But lets make the reverse true, If I feel that they are not doing all they can to educate my child can I then impose some punishment on them? If little Johnny fails because he didn’t get the help he needed I will demand half the teachers pay and the administrations pay to put him in tutoring to make up for the missing help. Also the guidance counselor will be required to deliver and pick up little Johnny from this private tutoring session as I cannot be late to work again after serving my DETENTION for being caught in traffic.

This is punishment without cause and there are no checks and balances in this, creating a fascist state administered by a socialist organization and any parent who subjects himself to the humiliation of this should have their head examined. Of course they obviously went to the same government schools as this one is and never learned how to think for themselves or how to explore the ramifications of either of the two above listed forms of government.

Free Thinking = Insanity? I dont think so!

Wow I forgot about this page and haven’t been here in ages. Guess I can start using it again now that I found it. Yes I know its linked on my page but .....

Anyway looks like my recent realizations have not been posted here. It took a long time but over the course of my political activism on both sides of the conservative/liberal line I finally settle somewhere in between. How is it that we are forced into a "camp" where we define our beliefs by those around us. While my nature is not entirely altruistic, I do believe that we have a responsibility to better our country through service, even if we don’t necessarily agree with the reasons behind it, keeping our families free is a prime responsibility. On that note I also believe that it is our civic responsibility to elect responsible officials that will vote with our FREEDOM at heart. This means not spending my money without permission and on stupid things that are pointless. I do not believe in Welfare as a career and I do hold that we should all do what we can to help others. Not by giving in to their pitiful ministrations for a handout but by offering enough work to them to make their own life what they choose for it to be.

Read the first sentence on the second paragraph. I don't know about you but I fee much better knowing that throughout all of Florida in all the ports there is at least 162 gallons of fuel. ROFL Look later in the article it says FL alone uses 23 million gallons a day. So we have enough fuel for what hmm let’s see carry the one and you have.......wait for it. That’s enough fuel for exactly 2/3 of a second. Hopefully this article has good editors and they will catch this mistake.

Ok let’s think for a moment. I am not immune or ignoring the tragedy in LA but there is more than enough coverage on that issue. Let’s leave it at this. I can understand the grocery stores getting ransacked for food, but other items? Looters should be shot on site and left as a warning. Sounds cruel but it would stop the worst in human nature from making a bad situation worse. Anyway the oil companies are able to be up and running again within a few days after a major storm like this. That is impressive and since our nations economy is based on oil this is a good thing. Lets give our prayers to the victims of the storm and our thanks to the Oil companies for being so well prepared for a storm like this, maybe civilians should take some suggestions from them on getting ready for a major storm like this.

Why does Cindy get half a page and this a few lines. People listen to me our guys and gals are making it happen over there. There is an entire nation that is now free! They get to vote over there and are willing to die to do it. We are going to keep them safe. The vote thing is another blog when it comes to voters in our country. But over there we are not malicious baby killers forced into slavery because our young are too stupid to know any better! We are a proud country whos young are volunteering to go and make the world a better place! Keep it up and lets keep supporting them. We love you guys and gals and thanks for all you do.

You know what truly angers me about this woman? Beside the fact that she is dishonoring her son’s memory and basically spitting in the face of every American soldier who has ever given their life so she can have the freedom to stage her false protest, she is getting attention because of it! Like a petulant child she is being spoiled by the mainstream media to the point of exclusion of all else. The coverage was lopsided before her, but since she has come on the scene there has been little or no coverage of anything but her. The crosses behind her with brave men and women listed on them don’t represent anything but religious hypocrisy. You want to talk about sacrifice? My story is no different than many others out there and carries all the meaning of a life dedicated to service. She wants to whine and cry about her son passing away or as she said being killed by President Bush. Her son died to keep us free and should be honored because of it. My sister is a mother of three who chose to join the military after 9/11, left her, at that time, two children in my care for almost a year while she was training to do her job. Then, when her time to serve came, she willingly left, her now three children, to go serve her country in the war on terror, overseas where they cannot go. She hasn’t seen them in months and wont until after Christmas. Do you see her whining and crying or her children hating their mom for what she is doing? NO she does what she does with honor and with dignity and all the love and care that a true mother has for her children. She does what she does to keep them and all of us safe because she believes in what she is doing for her country!! Her children don’t hate her, the ones who are old enough to understand are proud of their mom and the youngest wont even know the difference. She misses them horribly but also understands what it means to be a loving mother and to sacrifice when your duty calls for it. Some things in this world are worth dying for, some are worth protecting and some are worth giving up that which is most precious to you for a cause larger than yourself. So I say to Cindy Sheehan, remove yourself from your pathetic excuse for a self involved pity party, stop trying to martyr your son on a cross of injustice and begin to honor his memory by encouraging all young people to get a sense of pride in their country and go out and fight against evil in the world. Patriotism is lacking in this country and it’s high time that those who have sacrificed for it start acting like it. All those of you who are protecting my family and children from the tyranny of the world I honor you and thank you and please, become the best you can at what you do so you can come home to your family as I return to mine every night. But if the ultimate sacrifice is made for us then we honor you and comfort your families with a patriotic love for a life given in the ultimate sacrifice, service to your country! © 2005 Flint Anderson

Ok so here we go again letting OPEC, "A Cartel," decide for us how much we are going to pay for gas. While the chickenhearted, tree hugging, evnironmental wackos are more concerned about horney moose than keeping their kids warm at night. Lets look at this as it really is folks. This is not about paying over 2 dollars a gallon for gas. This is about having enough money to enjoy the life that we have become accustomed to in this country. I hate the fact that there are people with so much political influence in this country that we wont drill for our own oil in our own land that wont affect anybody but we will still supplicate ourselves to the control of the very people who are killing our young men on a daily basis. This is insane and Im sick of it. Stand up for whats right before its too late.
